Getting to know the team... Part 1...

Here at Team WIN we all thought that it'd be nice if we just posted a little bit ourselves, so you can get to know us a little bit, there are nine of us in total so we will split it down into 3 posts of 3 people. In this first post we will take a look at Phil, Ryan and Emma!!

Phil Shilton

Phil is our Project Manager here at Team WIN, his favourite colour is orange, favourite topic at school was art, and favourite food is a carbonara calzone.

He likes football and ice hockey, and is a massive Nottingham Forest Football Club fan. And if you were wondering, yes he is a relative of the great Peter Shilton!!

If Phil was to summarise himself in one word, he said it would be creative!

Ryan Cape

Ryan is our main CAD Designer/Draughtsman, favourite topic at school was art, and his favourite food is curry, in particular a nice jalfrezi. His favourite colour is red!

Ryan plays cricket for the university team at Nottingham Trent and is a good all-rounder when it comes to playing.

If he was to summarise himself in one word it would also be creative.

Emma Eaton-Knight

Emma is our main school contact and community liaison officer in WIN. Her favourite topic is also art, favourite colour is orange and she loves French patisseries, her favourite is a pan au chocolat!

Emma is into horse riding, snow boarding, archery, shoe shopping and generally spending money!!

In one word, Emma has summarised herself with ginger!!

And so there you have it, the first 3 profiles of Team WIN, more coming soon...!!!

Update on Team WIN

So, what has been happening recently with Team WIN?!

I know your all thinking it, and well to stop you all wondering, here is an update!!

Meetings...

Several meetings have taken place in recent weeks, as you may have guessed.

Above is the meeting following Laurence's visit to the school with fellow groups, a Blog will be posted on this shortly. The information was really good that everyone gained, and most importantly the kids seemed to have loved it!!

A site visit has also taken place, Phil, Ben, Laurence and Callum all attended this, more on this shortly. Also while there we had chance to speak to Emma (the client), which was really good and informative, and spent a nice couple of hours talking and getting ideas bounced around.

And then lastly (below) was the last meeting before the Christmas break.

Here we just all had a chance to get everyone in the team up to date with how everything is going and running and also started to share some ideas on designs, mind maps, and materials to be used. Emma Rubens and Indigo Grey were also present and this was another great time to get some ideas shown to them and get their thoughts on everything. Some real positive feedback was taken from this!!

Anyway that's all for now, keep an eye out for the next Blog on Laurence's school visit and the guys site visit.

Construction Techniques

Check out these links for some interesting information on construction techniques that could be used in the build.

Ecologic Pavilion In Alsace/Studio 1984:

This one is actually pretty interesting, a straw-bale classroom, so quite appropriate to our project! (Cool pictures and diagrams as well)
Straw Bale Eco Centre/Students of Ball State University Department of Architecture:

Emma, one the team members had this to say about the below link: "Okay, found this, seriously like the theory and its multi-storey with straw-bales..."
Guest House/AATA Associate Architects:

Another one from Emma she loves...
Caterpillar House:

Any feed back on these would be great!!! Which is your favourite?! Let us know!!! Just drop a comment in the comment box!!!

The Logo!!!

Here are a few of the logo designs that were thrown around...
